Black and White to ColorDesign: The phrase "the cake is a lie" comes from a computer game in which the main character is promised cake after completing a series of tests. Periodically the player finds this message throughout the game, and when all tests are complete, there is in fact no cake.
Attention is directed to the phrase which combines my nerdy interests with my cynical view that there is always a catch. Often things seem easy at the outset, a piece of cake, but of course, the cake is a lie. Process: I started with a color image of a cake, which I then turned to black and white, and added text. I then used the black and white adjuster to bring color back to the flame and the letters of "The cake is a lie". The candle was yellow in the original picture, but I used a color overlay to make it match the letters. The final addition was my signature.
