USU Stars Digital DisplayDesign: The image was created to encourage students to take their education further. I am an engineer and a fan of space exploration, and the Mars rover seemed like the perfect example of pushing boundaries. It was through education that engineers were able to create this marvel and take thoughts and ideas and make them a reality.
Process: I started with a color image of the Mars rover, turned it into a pencil drawing using filters and multiple layers, and then overlaid a copy of the original with a gradient so that the image faded from pencil sketch to full color. I then added text, made copies of a selection of the Martian surface, and used the text to make a mask. The final addition was engineering graph paper in the background, strengthening the idea of science and engineering. Using portions of the Martian surface to color the words "to vivid reality", while leaving the rest of the text black tied the idea of "vivid reality" strongly to the color image of the rover, the realized idea. Keeping text left aligned and close to the image ties it all together in one image. The hard line at the top of the engineering paper emphasizes education, along with the larger text size of education.
