USU Digital DisplayDesign: This project was designed for use by USU in a digital display to remind students of upcoming deadlines. The deadline for tuition payment is near Christmas, so it seemed an obvious choice for inspiration.
Process: I adjusted the image of Santa's list so it fit and left space for the text on the right hand side. Black leather with a red fill and hard light blend mode became the backdrop for the text. The color and texture are reminiscent of Santa and the leather the list is written on. The green for the text was selected to contrast with the red, and continue the Christmas theme. A drop shadow on the text made it more easily readable. Initially I matched the green text to the green in the image on the left, but lightened it in an attempt to make it more readable for those who are color blind, which also makes it a bit more readable even for those who see colors, because the two colors have a stronger light/dark contrast. Text boxes are all aligned with each other, just slightly from the edge so the eye isn't drawn to the border between the image and the text. The top and bottom portions of text follow a similar sizing pattern, with "Dec 14" and "Tuition" being the most prominent parts.
